Dragon heartstrings are pieces of a dragon's heart stripped into a small string. Since the heart is a vital organ to both dragons and Wizardkind, it is assumed that the dragon from whom the string was taken from was either dead or close to death.
Ollivander's Description[]
Mr. Ollivander stated that Dragon Heartstring wands are able to produce the most power, and the most "flamboyant" spells. People with dragon wands tend to learn spells more quickly than Unicorn Hair and Phoenix Feather wands. Owners of these wands are more likely to turn to the Dark Arts than owners of the two other Supreme Cores.
